ZOOM record breakers
Three new records were set at the Poly 50 SP Campus Relay held on 29 July 2009.
In the SP Students category, Zoom Elites beat 91 other teams to emerge champions with a record time of 1 hour 14 minutes 21 seconds. The Zoom team, comprising mainly members from the SP Track & Field team, managed to shave 26 seconds off the previous record, which was set in 2008.
Lee Boon Kiat, captain of both the Zoom Elites and SP Track & Field teams, was also a member of the record-setting Zoom team in 2008. "I am really happy that this year’s team was able to set the record again, even if it is against my previous team," the final year student from the Diploma in Chemical Processing Technology course said.
"Our members have trained very hard and Poly 50 is an event that we look forward to every year. I hope this year’s record can stand for quite some time but I would not be disappointed if it is broken as that means that the competitors are getting better," he said, before adding: "Poly 50 is an event that encourages team work and we can really bond our members together through the training sessions."
